GTV Shift Program developed Ada's House, a Supportive Housing Facility that provides long
term, transitional housing and life skills training to young women between the
ages of 16-25 with children or who are pregnant. It assists these families with making the SHIFT from dependent to
independent self-sufficient lifestyles. Additionally it will assist these young
women with available onsite child care services.
As one of the only facilities
of this nature in Suffolk County to offer these
services, this 20 unit facility provides clients with a nine-step
program and individualized service plans. These individualized service plans
will teach them necessary parenting skills and life skills, and provide
supportive services inclusive of crisis intervention and prevention. This
collaborative approach to empowerment will be the keystone to developing
self-sufficiency in the clients. These steps include personal development,
vocational training, substance abuse prevention, pregnancy prevention,
interpersonal skills building, community involvement, leisure family
activities, independent living skills and parenting skills.
